Aadhaar not mandatory for EPFO members

Aadhaar number is not mandatory for more than 5 crore members of EPFO for taking benefits of Provident Fund schemes because these schemes do not fall under the category of central government’s direct benefit transfer scheme. Schemes under EPFO and ESIC do not fall in the list of direct cash transfer scheme. An official said that this scheme has been separated from the DBT scheme because DBT is distributing subsidy amounts while PF amount is not subsidy benefits. Earlier it was decided to make Aadhaar number necessary for new members from March 1, 2013 while the completion date was set to 30th June 2013.
The state government of Karnataka has decided to setup special Aadhaar enrollment camps for disabled people across the territory. He added that separate camps will be held for pregnant women, disabled people, transgenders, and senior citizens.
The state government of Maharashtra has decided to launch mobile van service for remote areas for the purpose of enrolling people for Aadhaar who are unable to visit an enrollment camp. The vans will be equipped with biometric scanners and well trained staff who will enroll people by visiting door-to-door of remote villages. Such step is intended with the purpose of promoting and encouraging people for Aadhaar enrollment. A district will be allotted 5 vans and these vans will operate in all 35 districts of the state.
